Under the Medicaid statute, states must provide up to three months of retroactive coverage to successful applicants, an important protection for consumers and hospitals referred to as “Retroactive Medicaid eligibility (RME).” Unfortunately, Florida eliminated the RME section of the Medicaid statute for non-pregnant adults over 21 and limited coverage to one month.
