This conference will include multiple trainings aimed at providing: 1) an overview of the legal authority governing health care rights for low-income Floridians (including children, elders, veterans, individuals with mental or physical disabilities, immigrants with legal status), and 2) practical tools for how legal services and pro bono attorneys can assist clients in securing their rights.
There will be 12 one hour sessions, with 3 tracks running simultaneously. There will also be 2 general sessions with all attendees, a plenary and a rapid fired panel. The 12 one-hour sessions will include discussion of multiple hypotheticals that will be provided prior to the conference. Each session will also include discussion on how to educate clients about their rights and conduct effective outreach.
Panelists include Florida legal aid attorneys with extensive experience in poverty health law, pro bono health and elder law attorneys and national experts willing and eager to work with Florida FFLA grantees. The target audience includes legal aid attorneys and pro bono attorneys as well as other advocates who help low income Floridians in securing their health care rights, e.g. ombudsmen; SHINE.
There is no registration fee and CLEs will be provided.
Time and Location:
The conference check-in is from 10:30-11:30 on Monday, November 17. Coffee and snacks will be provided. The conference begins promptly at 11:45 on November 17 and concludes at noon on November 18.
