True: Florida is the only state removing children from low-cost health insurance
Politifact rates as “True” the statement by U.S. Rep. Kathy Castor that “Florida is the only state in the nation kicking children off their affordable health coverage and preventing over 40,000 children from getting KidCare coverage.” The state has defied a federal rule requiring 12 months of continuous enrollment while also delaying an expansion of KidCare eligibility that the Florida Legislature unanimously approved in 2023.
In March, the Florida Health Justice Project and the National Health Law Program filed suit against Florida’s Medicaid and KidCare agencies to force implementation of the expansion.
