Spectrum News reports on a state judge’s recent decision refusing to order executive branch officials in Florida to implement a 2023 law that expanded access to subsidized health insurance for children. The ruling came in a lawsuit filed by Florida Health Justice Project and the National Health Law Program on behalf of three children who were deemed ineligible for the program even though they meet the financial eligibility requirements of the law. In a statement following the decision, Florida Health Justice Project stated it “continue[s] to believe ACHA and Florida Healthy Kids Corporation have a duty to implement laws passed by the Florida Legislature, and that they have no legally valid reason to block a law that the state’s legislative branch and the federal government have both approved.”
