We develop strategies, policy updates, and success stories that underscore the importance of advocating for Medicaid expansion and reform. And we share our work so that together we can ensure comprehensive healthcare coverage for those in need.
Potentially eligible individuals include Children under 19, Youth ages 19-21, Parents and Caretakers, Pregnant People, and Former Foster Care Children ages 18-26.
Potentially eligible individuals include SSI recipients, low income individuals who are 65 and over, disabled or blind, and individuals needing a nursing facility level of care in an institutional or community setting.
Florida’s KidCare programs (MediKids, Florida Healthy Kids, and Children’s Medical Services Health Plan) offer government-sponsored health insurance for children through age 18 whose families’ income exceeds the income limits for Medicaid
All Florida Medicaid enrollees have certain rights regarding notice of upcoming changes or termination, the right to appeal when they disagree with the decision, and reimbursement for expenses incurred when coverage was wrongly terminated.. Learn more about how to exercise these rights here.

In early 2023, Congress discontinued the requirement of continuous Medicaid that was put in place during the COVID-19 Public Health Emergency. FHJP has advocated for those affected by the process of redetermining eligibility, referred to as the “unwind.” Because the Florida Department of Children and Families termination notices are often confusing and can be wrong, it is important that recipients and their advocates understand Medicaid eligibility rules, how to request assistance and how to file an appeal.
