ENFORCING THE RIGHTS

OF BENEFICIARIES & EXPANDING MEDICAID COVERAGE

Medicaid advocacy is essential to expanding access to healthcare for the most vulnerable. We develop strategies, policy updates, and success stories that underscore the importance of advocating for Medicaid expansion and reform. And we share our work so that together we can ensure comprehensive healthcare coverage for those in need.

Unwinding Continuous Medicaid

In early 2023, Congress discontinued the requirement of continuous Medicaid that was put in place during the COVID-19 Public Health Emergency. FHJP has advocated for those affected by the process of redetermining eligibility, referred to as the “unwind.” Because the Florida Department of Children and Families termination notices are often confusing and can be wrong, it is important that recipients and their advocates understand Medicaid eligibility rules, how to request assistance and how to file an appeal.

MEDICAID
EXPANSION

Florida is one of just 10 states that has not expanded Medicaid, leaving many Floridians without critical healthcare. FHJP continues to make the case for Medicaid expansion in Florida and keep the issue in front of the public, the media and policymakers.
