Medicaid is complicated, and the Medicaid eligibility process is especially difficult to navigate in Florida. It is important that those applying for or enrolled in Medicaid understand their rights under the eligibility rules and what to do if they believe they are wrongly being denied Medicaid coverage.
Shortly after the 2024 election, Congress began considering significant reductions in Medicaid funding in order to fund expensive tax cuts. As of February 2025, Congress plans to push through reductions of $880 billion that would tremendously harm the 80 million Americans, and 4 million Floridians who rely upon Medicaid for their health care. FHJP is actively advocating against these cuts, and has developed materials to assist others in their advocacy.
In Florida, most Medicaid recipients are required to enroll in a managed care plan. It is important to know how to choose and enroll in a plan, where to find the plan’s obligations, and what to do when a plan denies medically necessary medical treatment or equipment.
