Medicaid covers over 40% of births statewide, ensuring access to essential services for expectant and new mothers, including prenatal visits, labor and delivery, postpartum care, mental health support, and substance use treatment. - [Need To Reinstate Retroactive Medicaid Eligibility](https://floridahealthjustice.org/our-stories/need-to-reinstate-retroactive-medicaid-eligibility/): Reinstate Retroactive Medicaid Eligibility Under the Medicaid statute, states must provide up to three months of retroactive coverage to successful applicants, an important protection for consumers and hospitals referred to as “Retroactive Medicaid eligibility (RME).” Unfortunately, Florida eliminated the RME section of the Medicaid statute for non-pregnant adults over 21 and limited coverage to one month.

While coverage has improved, it’s important to keep pushing for a comprehensive dental benefit in Part B that will apply to all people on Medicare.

- [Former Foster Care Children](https://floridahealthjustice.org/our-stories/former-foster-care-children/): Systems-Involved Youth The Affordable Care Act (ACA) provided coverage for youth aging out of foster care until age 26 (“Former Foster Care” Medicaid). This critical coverage for young adults mirrors the ACA provision allowing children to stay on their parents’ health insurance plan until age 26. Prior to legal advocacy by FHJP and our partners, only 67 children were in the program. Following our demand letter, the problematic policies limiting enrollment were addressed.
