Florida drops KidCare lawsuit, but expansion hasn’t happened

Florida has not implemented its approved KidCare expansion, leaving tens of thousands of children without access to high quality, affordable health insurance. Despite dropping a federal lawsuit that was cited as the reason for delays, the state has taken no action, forcing families to pay high premiums or go without specialized care. “These are disabled children; their lives depend on these things,” said Lauren Sundberg, a mother of a medically disabled child who is no longer eligible for the subsidized KidCare program after her husband received a modest salary increase.

Florida Health Justice Project and the National Health Law Program are suing to require the state to follow through on the law.
